Visiting Friends Who Live Simply

Yesterday it was so cold here in Small Town America but I needed to get out of the house for a little road trip.  I headed down to visit some Amish friends who have three greenhouses on their property.  It was so good to see them again since I had been away for six months working in Maine.

They were just getting things rolling for the new season that will be upon us sooner than we think.  It was nice to get out of the brisk wind and peruse the new plants that they were just unpacking.  This is the bigger of three greenhouses; it has two stoves/furnaces that heat the inside.  They use coal fire so it provides a good steady heat.  It helped me to think ahead to my plans to put in some raised beds at the little house.  I was able to take some of their large cardboard refuse to use to line my beds once the weather improves.

Isn't it funny how just chatting with other people with green thumbs chases the chill away?  I left there and popped in to visit the wife's parents' house who live on the same road.  It was so cozy and warm inside the welcoming door.  It just warmed my heart to be back there.  You know I say this every day but it is so good to be home again.
